Steeped Coffee

1. Prep the Grounds

Use a coarse grind (texture of sea salt). If the grounds are too fine, the coffee will turn out muddy and bitter because they’ll stay in contact with the water for a long time.

then put the coffee powder into the cup

  • The Measurements

    • Coffee Powder: 15 to 17 grams (this is roughly 2 level tablespoons).

    • Water: 237 grams (which is exactly 8 oz or 1 US cup).

2. Heat the Water

Bring your water to just below a boil, ideally around 200°F (93°C). If you don't have a thermometer, let the boiling water sit for about 30 seconds before pouring.

Once the water is ready, pour it into the cup.

3. The Bloom (Optional but Recommended)

Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds and wait 30 seconds. You'll see bubbles forming; this is the coffee "blooming" and releasing gases for a cleaner flavor.

Then pour the remaining hot water into the cup.

4. The Long Steep, then Serve

Pour the rest of your water over the grounds. Stir gently to make sure everything is submerged.

  • Wait Time: Let it sit for 4 minutes.

  • Pro Tip: If you prefer a stronger, bolder kick, you can push it to 5 minutes, but avoid going much longer or it will start to taste "ashy."
